'What does HOME mean to you', episode III.
‘Creak, creak, creak.’ The sound rolling a small folding shopping cart came around in a peaceful village. The town was a full of silence on that day I visited, I could crammed a lot of different sounds into a short moment. An elderly was climbing a hill with the small cart at her own pace, slow but never stopped. The pale orange sky on the top of the hill was alarming a solitary sunset, eventually the sky embrace her on the hill, no perhaps her uphill life.
THE REMINISCENT SCENERY REMINDS ME OF 'MOTHER'.
When I had almost arrived Knaresborough in the early morning, a train was about to arrive to Knaresborough High Bridge, one of the most beautiful bridges in England. As soon as I saw a sightseeing of the town with the bridge through the window in the train, I felt jumping into Shire, the hometown of Frodo Baggins, Hobbit. Bridges, walls, cottages, most of these dark ivory coloured buildings shined such as a gold, the light glanced on the River Nidd as a dark pearl colour with the golden architecture.
Perhaps because I visited the town on weekdays, most of spots were completely empty with no tourist. However it was a specially good trip because I could experience a normal appearance of this place. There was no doubt I was on the middle of the Hobbit’s Shire, but only the Shire after Frodo left. It’s likely to that the town waits for someone alone. When I had a cup of black tea in a cozy tea shop, there was an elderly man who was reading a paper with tea for a while. He put a note and a few coins on his table and he left the shop with no word, I could assumed that he must be a repeater. Perhaps spending time there might be his daily routine.
My mother also has her own daily routine. She always garden plants every weekend since I have left her home. It’s been already over 10 years now, I have never mentioned or asked what the plants mean to her. But I could guess it is comfort for her time she was left alone. I reminded of my mother when I saw the man in the tea shop and imagined maybe the tea time was the succour to him for something or someone’s absence.
The time your journey have been unexpectedly longer, there should be a chance to be lost in thought suddenly about a hometown you used to live, or you were born in. Such as 'what was it looked like?', 'How are my family doing now?' and
'HOW HAS IT CHANGED.'
I believe city technically always stays there as it is, but we do feel it keeps changing. Even the home I lived over 10 years, I had a bit unfamiliar feeling when I got there from my long journey, which was quite strange experience I didn’t expect.
Frodo decided to go to another journey at the end of the film, the Lord of the Rings. He finally could return to his home after the long, adventurous trip with Sam, he needed somewhere else to settle down his mind. I have sympathy for Frodo, as the meaning ‘HOME’ I expect kept transforming against my will during the journey I have been through outside. I could seldom find the meaning at the home I was born any longer even though it still stays there and I still miss.
Wonder Frodo has eventually came back to Shire from another journey he went alone. How do you reckon?
